In September 2007 CDC was contracted to provide a Soundchem split hopper vessel to New Zealand Marine Brokers Ltd on behalf of ENT Transport ET TP, Noumea New Caledonia.
The Soundchem was required to carry and then dump nickel slag for a reclamation project and port extension. The high productivity of the first Soundchem unit convinced the client to hire a second Soundchem vessel which was then dispatched from New Zealand.
Both units worked on 14-hour shifts with full engineering backup provided on board by CDC.  The client reported that productivity of the Soundchem vessels over the duration of the job was almost twice that of the client’s own pre start estimates. In total some 3,000,000cm3 of nickel slag material was transported during the job and this was achieved this with near zero vessel downtime during the deployment.
