January 2010: CDC adds a new tug to the fleetCDC Tug Boat

CDC has purchased a new addition to the fleet in the form of the Mina Campbell. She is 17.5m long with a bollard pull of 9.5 tons. The Mina Campbell has a single screw propulsion unit fitted with steering nozzles and bow thrusters. The vessel draws 2.2m

February 2010: CDC Awarded Weinam Creek Dredging Contract.

CDC has successfully tendered for the Weinam Creek Dredging contract issued by the Redland City Council. CDC - having successfully dredged 50,000m3 at Aquatic Paradise for the Redland City Council have now been awarded a further 13,000 m3 at Weinam Creek full job report coming soon!

March 2010: CDC Deploys 35 Tonne Jack Up to complete Cone Penetration Testing at Port Kembla

CDC have mobilised their small Jack Up platform to be used for overwater drilling within the Outer Harbour at Port Kembla - full Job Report coming soon!

April 2010: On Their Way. to Botany Bay!CDC Tug Boat

CDC's Soundchem I and Gunnamatta vessels are off to Port Botany to assist with the Sydney Ports Corporation expansion of its container port facilities. The expansion is one of the largest port projects to be undertaken in Australia in the last 30 years. In 2005, Sydney Ports Corporation obtained Government approval for the expansion of the existing port through reclamation of 60 hectares of land.

The expansion is being constructed adjacent to the existing Patrick terminal and will provide significant additional capacity to meet projected long-term trade growth.

Features of the expansion are:

  • 1,850 metres of additional wharf face for five extra shipping berths
  • 60 hectares of reclaimed terminal land
  • deep water berths with depths of up to 16.5 metres
  • dredging of approximately 7.8 million cubic metres of fill material to create shipping channels and berth boxes
  • dedicated road access to the new terminal area
  • additional rail sidings to provide rail access to the new terminal area
  • rehabilitation and expansion of Penrhyn Estuary to create a secure estuarine environment
  • community facilities including boat ramp, look outs, pathways
  • first berths to be available for trade in 2012.

May 2010: CDC to Drop Rock at Brisbane's Gateway Bridge

CDC have been contracted to drop rock around the base of the new Gateway Bridge - largest bridge and road project in Queensland's history. Check out our Job Report 110 for more detail.

July 2010: Sino Iron Project

CDC's colossal 250 tonne Jack Up Platform has been summonsed to assist with the Sino Iron Ore Project. The Sino Iron Project, located at Cape Preston, approximately 1,500 km north of Perth, involves the establishment of an iron ore mine and related facilities, including marine loading and unloading facilities. The project works consist of four separable portions:

  • Installation of caissons for service wharf, construction of a module offload facility and installation of a desalination seawater intake;
  • Construction of a barge offload facility and dolphins and catwalks;
  • Installation of a desalination interface tank, outfall pipeline and diffuser; and
  • rehabilitation and expansion of Penrhyn Estuary to create a secure estuarine environment
  • Construction of tug berths

August 2010: CDC Expands Fleet

CDC have purchased the Yorksyme - a 29m Harbour Tug on a 2.5:1 reduction driven by a 1080hp Ruston Engine. The Yorksyme has a 9mm steel hull and steel deck, has full crew quarters and is a strong, proven performer. The Yorksyme will be used to assist with the Mob and de-mob of CDC's fleet.

CDC have also purchased the ST11 - a 41m multi-use hopper barge with 1000 tonne DWT and aft ramp loading.

September 2010: CDC's Acquires Two More Beauties

CDC have added two more barges to it's fleet Wendy and Brenda. More details and photos to come soon
